Systems Engineer
The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) is recruiting for a Systems Engineer who will be responsible for implementing and administering various network infrastructure solutions to support the agency’s mission. The position will use security best practices when implementing solutions and be able to support all agency network infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement SASE solutions (Secure Access Service Edge) including SD-WAN (Software Defined Wide Area Network), ZTNA (Zero Trust network architecture), SWG (Secure Web Gateway) and CASB (Cloud Access Security Broker).
- Maintain a high level of availability for the local area network and servers.
- Administer VMware cluster and Site Recovery Manager.
- Install, upgrade, administer and migrate Next Generation firewalls, wired and wireless network equipment and VPN solutions.
- Install, upgrade, and administer storage arrays.
- Administer Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
- Install, upgrade, and administer Linux and Windows servers.
- Install, upgrade, and administer various server-based applications.
- Administer and migrate automated desktop deployment and patch management.
- Administer backup systems.
- Develop methods to automate tasks.
- Manage TCP/IP subnets and network diagrams.
- Research and evaluate software and hardware.
- Develop new strategies to support agency computer processing needs.
- Advise management of new technologies and improvements to existing processes and infrastructure.
- Recommend and implement technologies for hybrid environments.
- Administer Cloud technologies.
- Manage incidents, quality control and projects.
- Train and mentor junior staff members.
- Solve complex problems and make informed decisions.
- Work effectively individually as well as in a team environment.
- Multitask and complete projects within established deadlines.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
- College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)Associate’s Degree
- (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
- Work experience in IT-related functions, hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.
- Five years of relevant experience:
- installing, upgrading, and administering Windows Servers.
- installing, upgrading, and administering wired and wireless networks using one of the following vendors: Cisco, HPE Aruba, Juniper, Aerohive or Fortinet.
- installing, upgrading, migrating, and administering Next Generation network firewalls and VPN solutions using one of the following vendors: Cisco, Fortinet, or Palo Alto.
- implementing and administering a virtualization environment using one of the following vendor products: VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V or Nutanix AHV.

Salary Range: $90,000 - 105,000 per year
